[Blog Tour - Review & Giveaway] Mike's Way Back ~ Amy Gregory

Title: Mike’s Way Back (Finding Perfect #1)

Author: Amy Gregory

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publication Date: September 30, 2013

Cover Designed By: Davis Snodgrass

Event organized by: Literati Author Services, Inc.

Detective Mike Sterling walked away from his dream job telling himself it was to honor the promise he’d made his mother, while lying in a Chicago emergency room. A year later, he’s still fighting the demons that followed him back to his boyhood town.

Taryn Watts is an award-winning designer, going from project to project, living from a suitcase. Her plan for Renlend Kansas was the same as always. Go in, get the job done and get out, just the way she likes it. Growing up as a cop’s daughter, her every move was controlled. When she escaped to college she vowed to never fall in love with a cop –ever. Until she found herself sitting across from the ruggedly handsome stranger. Looking into Mike’s ice blue eyes they pulled her, called to her, but there was a haunting in them she knew too well.

Mike is drawn to Taryn, her passion for her work and her stunning beauty left him breathless, but what surprises him most is the peace he feels when he’s near her. Maybe it’s because Taryn is a temporary addition to his town and his secret is safe, or maybe it’s because she makes him feel safe. Mike knows he can’t keep up this charade and when Taryn moves to Renlend for an extended stay he can’t hide the truth any longer.

Can Taryn forget he’s a cop and give him her heart, or will his demons drive them apart?

About the Author

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs. The real answer is, “in bits and pieces”. She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions. Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times.

She has an off the wall, snarky, off the cuff sense of humor that often shocks even those who’ve known her for years. And she loves that her children have all been blessed that ability to make others laugh as well. At least she’s grateful most of the time! Her husband often teases her about how she “makes this stuff up” when he’s reading a piece of her work. … The answer—“it just comes to me when I’m typing”. Scary thought, huh!

Jasmine's Review

Likes:
- Taryn ( Her personality)
- Andrew and Scott ( they're just awesome friends really freaking awesome!)

Dislikes:
-Cover (It looks cheap, no offense)
- Don't really get Taryns BIG BIG problem with her family. I don't understand why she feels like she has such a horrible past.

Mikes okay. Don't love him but don't hate him either.

There really isn't much to say bout this book. It's so-so.

My uncle raped me.

I was 10 years old when it started.

At 13 he told me I was no longer wanted because I had started to

develop.

At 16 I was ready to kill him.

Today, I’m broken.

Today, I only breathe to survive.

My name’s Sergeant Major Ryan Jenkins and today, I’m ready to tell you my story.

“Master would flog me if I did, she won’t be happy when I tell her

what happened here.”

“Master?”

“Stella.”

Oh, Master.

***
image

“It’s just such a difficult situation.”

“Of course it’s difficult.” She stops talking and taps her fingernails again.

My eyes go to where she’s tapping, and then follow up to her face. I try to avoid her abrasive orbs.

“You’re overpowered by agony and torment, and it’s slowly claiming you day by day.”

I finally concede and look into Stella's eyes. Because every word she’s said, and every sentence that she’s breathed out has been so accurate about me.

“Freedom,” she says as I intake a huge gulp of air at that word. “I can promise you freedom if you can promise me you’ll never lie to me.”

Fuck.

I want it. I think I may even deserve my very own happily ever after. Are they real? According to movies and books they’re attainable. But this isn’t a movie, or even a fucking book.

This is my life. And I’m going to try to get it.

“No lies, ever,” I whisper.

I don't do 'normal'.

I've found that the more I write, the more I like being different to other authors. I write in first person,

and I love to challenge a reader.

I take the normal and switch it around.

For me, I really enjoy getting a reaction from a reader. So if I can evoke an emotion (regardless of if it's

the emotion the reader wants) then I figure that I've done my job as an author I want to be.

I really quite revel in taking people out of their comfort zones and pushing them to read something

different.

My genre of writing is, well quite frankly, where ever my mind goes. I won't label myself because I don't

like sticking to one genre.

My goal with writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it's only

for a split second.

I'm a go with the flow sort of person and don't really take a course of action to get where I am going. I

live in the moment and don't usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I'll

be happy to accept.

I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. I really don't like people that

are nasty just because they can be, I don't believe that's necessary, I mean life's hard enough as it is!

I hope you enjoy my books, I've had a hoot writing them. There's more to come.....

Til next time.

I'm an indie author and romance novice. I published Damaged and the Beast
in April '13. The New Adult romance between bad boy Cooper and his girl
Farah ended in a big sweet HEA. In July '13, I released Damaged and the Knight
with Farah's sister Tawny. She finds her knight in shining armor with
Judd O'Keefe. I have several more Damaged books planned for this year.

As
for me, I like hearts, flowers, butterflies, puppies, kitten-shaped
clouds, and unicorns with rainbows shooting from their asses. I support
love and peace. I also like cutting in lines and stealing candy from
babies. Wait, did I write that last part out loud? Oops.

DAMAGE AND THE BEAST EXCERPT

Chapter Five

Skye proved to be a reliable chauffeur until
Friday when something mysterious happened to her car. That was how she phrased
it. Something mysterious. She
couldn’t pick me up from work, so I would have to find another way home.

Cooper sat in the back booth, reading a book
he clearly hated with a passion. Occasionally, he smacked the book onto the
table then glared at it hatefully. Finally, he returned to reading. I had to
admit he looked especially hot in the white tee clinging to his strong chest.
The contrast of such bright white against his tanned flesh made it difficult
not to stare, let alone drool.

While I considered asking Cooper for a ride, I
immediately shot down the idea. I had successfully avoided him most of the
week, seeing him only on Wednesday night when he came in for dinner. He did a
lot of his intense staring and made a few comments squarely in the domain of
inappropriate. He also left me another twenty dollar tip. We had created a nice
relationship so far, but owing him anything was a mistake.

Cooper just wanted to fuck me. Though I wasn’t
wholly against the idea of sex with him, I sensed he would be rough and I’d
cry. My tears would likely piss him off and he would find a way to punish me.
Maybe I assumed too much, but I didn’t want to take the chance of ruining my
life in Ellsberg.

Giving up on asking him or anyone else, I
walked outside towards the bus stop. As I hurried through the parking lot, I
realized Cooper never left after paying his bill. When I glanced in the
direction where he was talking on the phone, I found him staring at me. I
turned away quickly, not needing any trouble. Hearing his motorcycle rev, I
prayed he was heading to a party and would speed right past me.

“Need a ride?” Cooper asked, pulling over as I
walked down the street. “Let me rephrase that. I know you need a ride, but are
you desperate enough to take one from me?”

“Why desperate?”

“You tell me. You act like I’m a stalkey
douche you can’t shake loose.”

Uh,
I wasn’t touching that statement.

“My ride cancelled and it’d be a pain to take
three busses.”

“Is that your way of saying you’re desperate
enough?”

Studying his grin and the rumbling hog, I
figured the ride would take five minutes tops. As for owing him, maybe I could
buy him dessert or take notes for him at school. You know, repay him with
something besides my body.

[Review] Into The Storm ~ Melanie Moreland

She is a woman on the run. Pain, loneliness and terror are what she is leaving. Where she is headed doesn’t matter as long as it’s away from the hell her life has become.

Joshua Bennett is trapped in a prison of his own making by the memories of his past. Traumatized and isolated, he is a reclusive writer, living a quiet, lonely life, his only companion his dog, Bear. It is what he knows, what he has accepted to be his life.

One dark night, one huge storm, and one ice patch brings them together. He finds himself with an unexpected houseguest with no memory. She wakes up a stranger to herself and the man watching her. Even more mysterious is the lack of any sort of identification with her or in her car. She is an enigma to both of them.

Trapped by the storm and isolated from the outside world, they slowly open up, learning to trust and love, until the world once again shows up, threatening the fragile peace of their newly discovered world, and tearing them apart.

There are many twists and turns as they struggle to find each other, overcoming both the mental and physical elements that keep them apart.

A story about overcoming our fears, finding love and learning to live again.

Jasmine's Review

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Got an ARC copy of this book but wasn't able to read it before the publish date.

This book is freakishly loooooong. I felt like it would never end! Not that it was a bad thing. Just saying that it was really long. At around 20% I seriously thought it was about to end already but when I saw the page thing at the bottom of kindle I was like no way!

Joshua is a writer of mystery. He also has a trauma of the outside world or something like that after being brutally  attacked outside his apartment. That attack almost made him lose his legs I would totally be traumatized too.

One winter night he found  Elizabeth a.k.a. Rabbit (love the nickname) crashed into a tree in the woods (his lawn I think). After bringing her home he found that she was badly beaten up (by her husband) but they don't know that since she lost her memories.

At that time the snow was really hard so they weren't able to go out much. And in that time they developed a relationship and blah blah blah. I think I might spoil the book if I say anymore.:) just read this never ending story,:)

This book was supposed to be reviewed by my co-bloggers but they didn't like it. So I gave it a try and it was good. Not freakishly awesome but good enough. It just seemed really interesting the way Joshua slowly fell for Rabbit (seriously that is really cute).

Brian (Rabbit's abusive husband) yah. I hate him. Even after he told her the reason in the end. The reason was a really nice twist!!:)

Overall this wasn't so bad unless you have something against people who get amnesia.:)

You know why rabbits.

[Review] The Fine Line ~ Alicia Kobishop

High school senior Liv Evans has one rule: No attachments. She’s lost enough in her life and has vowed to do whatever it takes to make sure she never again feels the emptiness of losing someone she loves. Boys are a fun distraction, but a serious relationship is something she’d rather live without. Her determination for a future free of pain and heartbreak is put to the test when she meets–and quickly forms an unexpected bond–with Logan Tanner.

Logan has always been a free spirit, but ever since a life-changing event took place, which left him doubting the integrity of those who are closest to him, he’s taken that term to a whole new dangerous level. Learning the hard way that life is too short for worries or work–and that women can’t be trusted–Logan has exchanged steady work for street racing. When Liv walks into his world, everything he thought he knew about life and women is challenged.

In The Fine Line, Liv and Logan will discover if it’s possible for true love to have a future, or if history is destined to repeat itself.

Tif's Review (Our new reviewer, more on her later)

The Fine Line by Alicia Kobishop was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Liv, the main protagonist of this story, is your typical sad girl. She's got the whole everyone-you-love-leaves-you mentality going on. Then comes the hunk of this story..Logan Tanner. All smooth moves and nice body. He's a drag racer and a total flirt, what more can you ask for? At first glance, he's a bad boy but really (like every bad boy in a book) he's all soft inside.

The rest of the story just consists of Liv being insecure and Logan always having issues and blah blah blah. This is where it got a bit annoying for me when Liv would be all, "I LOVE YOU LOGAN!" To, "DON'T TOUCH ME!!!!" In 5 seconds flat. It got pretty annoying actually.

The ending was where a little action picked up. There was a bad guy and a gun. You know the rest of the story. Then the author just HAD to put in the cliché of all clichés. Ugh. (Don't worry there's no baby)

This book is the perfect example of an NA novel. Just the right amount of steam, heart-wrenching drama, and hunky boys! I wouldn't say that it's a 'unique' read though. Everything about the book screamed predictable, but in a good way.

There was not enough meat in this story for me to totally fall in love with it. Yes, I did get a bit teary a couple times, but doesn't every girl when it comes to these sappy stories?!

All in all, The Fine Line was an okay read. Not exactly lust worthy, but it was still nice.
Rating: 3.5 stars
(Can't think anymore, mind's on vacation)

[Review] Theirs To Play ~ Kenya Wright

Two billionaire brothers enjoy twisted games where women are the sport. They find a female, date her, and compete to see who can bed her first.

Too bad they picked the wrong one this time. Dawn's too smart for their verbal play and too quick to get trapped by clever ploys.

The more the brothers work to capture her heart, the more they discover she might not be theirs to play.

Aly's Review

Dawn. Oh, Dawn. Swooooon.

Okay, just kidding. But Dawn IS pretty hot. She isn't your conventional storybook heroine with typical cliches. There was no lovesick girl with delusions in this book. Dawn was sure of herself and what she wanted. She didn't fall for the sappy lines or put up with the crap that was given to her.
She was my ideal heroine - one that was long needed in the NA genre.

The best feature in Theirs To Play was the characters. They were well developed and had layers of complexity. They were the type to laugh with and get frustrated with. Kenya Wright has an obvious talent with writing, a strong and clear voice apart from the typical characters.

The love triangle (yes, there were two guys and the possibility of another one in the end. Oops. Spoiler!) was one of the good ones I've read. There's a fine line in books with love triangles, and Ms. Wright balanced herself pretty well.

Of course, no book is unblemished. I read in Goodreads that Wright had impeccable writing style, grammar, spelling, and composition. I decided to watch out for those common errors that authors tend to make. There was the occasion misspelled word (site instead of sight, taut instead of taught, its instead of it's). This was a huge turn off, especially in the steamy scenes. There were around eight of these errors - which aren't all that bad compared to the others I've read.

Despite its flaws, Theirs To Play is a definite must-read. If you're looking for an independent, strong heroine in a love triangle, I strongly suggest you read this book. A definite warning for you though; it has a "cliffy" in the end. Good luck with that, if you're planning to read it.

Always reading,

Aly

In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamond, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science.

Author Bio:
Wonderlander, Neverlander, Unicorn-chaser, enchanter, musician, survived a coma, & totally awesome. Sometimes I tell stories. Always luv the little monsters      I write young adult paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and science fiction mostly. The Grimm Diaries series is a seven book saga that deals with retellings of fairy tales from a young adult POV - it connects most of the fairy tales together and claims to be the truth about fairy tales.      I live in San Fransisco and seriously think circles are way cooler than triangles.

Author Q&A

Q: Is insanity an Alice in Wonderland retelling where fact and fiction intermingle like in your previous series the Grimm Diaries?
A: It’s not quite a retelling of Alice in Wonderland as much as inspired by it. It has all the whimsical and nonsensical wonderland fantasy parts, but it’s more grounded to reality because it happens in our time. Fact and fiction do walk side by side in this book. For instance, Lewis Carroll is present as character himself.

Q: Why did you call it Insanity?
A: Well, insanity is the main theme of the book. All what Alice has seen could be interpreted as madness in many ways. Also, when you read the book, it’s insane. I mean like really insane. You will either love or hate it. I don’t think there is a middle zone.

Q: Is the story told from many point of views like the Grimm Diaries?
A: Just a few, but most of the story is Alice’s personal journey.

Q: The Grimm Diaries was filled with research, how much did you put in Insanity?
A: I think the research in Insanity is even greater than the Grimm Diaries. The book is also more action oriented. Alice travels from Oxford, London, Vatican City then Belgium in a couple of days. Each city had to be researches and connected with Lewis Carroll and his books.

Q: The blurb says Alice’s sanity can only be proved through Lewis Carroll’s photography and writing. We thought this is about Wonderland.
A: It’s about Wonderland. The idea is that all puzzles, action scenes, and even romance have a Lewis Carroll background to them. The main reason why this book came to my mind is my fascination with both Alice in Wonderland and Lewis Carroll himself. If you learn the reasons behind each character and location in his book, you will love Alice in Wonderland even more. It’s no coincidence that we all relate to the book. It’s a masterpiece.

Q: You said Insanity is more of a TV pilot. How so?
A: I did write it as a novel but also as TV pilot. The reason is that once you get the idea of the book, the possibilities are infinite, and incredibly amusing. When outlining my plot, I found out it would take books and books to write it. So I wrote one story with a beginning, middle, and end. It’s satisfying on its own, but if I succeeded in peaking your interest you should like to read the next books. The beauty of it is that once you read one book, each other book will be a story of its own. It’s very much like a TV series.

Q: Anything you want to add?
A: I wish everyone and awesome Christmas and a Fantabulous new yearJ And if I messed with you childhood memories of Alice in Wonderland a bit, don’t hate me. Lol.

Jasmine's Review

I received/begged for an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I seriously LOVE this book. This couple is one of my favorite pair ever. They're just perfect for each other. I don't know why but I just felt that they were really made for each other.

Jude, OMG this boy is just HOT HOT HOT! That football scene with all those drool worthy sweaty players. Freaking hot!! ALL OF THEM. Especially Jude.

Imagine 10 of them. TEN! DROOL!!!

One thing I love about Jude is that when he figured out he had feelings for Charley, he didn't run away. He didn't do stupid things to make her hate him. And the secrets he kept didn't make him run away... much.

This is how I imagine Bennett

Bennett, Jude's best friend, reminded me of Barney from How I Met Your Mother. With his suits and all. I would really like a book on him and Naomi.

Charley (I just really love that name) way better than Clarissa or whatever her really name is. She is a model, but she doesn't model for fame but only for money. She loves her privacy and painting and I liked that about her.

This couple is really one of the best that I have ever read. It's just one of those things I don't know how to explain.

One thing I don't like about this book is that the ending is too short. I really love HEA (Happily Ever Afters) so I wanted to read more on what happened after they faced their own demons. Especially since I really love them. I want more of them that it's really bothering me. But other than that I love it.:D

5 Cameras Lens!
With Jude being a photographer and all.
